Black SashOne Stripe
The first rank beyond black sash. One Stripe training deepens your command of the Eagle Claw curriculum with new techniques and forms, refining the speed, precision, and fighting intent built through the sash ranks.
About this rank
Earning a black sash marks the start of deeper training, not the end of it. The One Stripe curriculum builds on everything from the sash ranks with new techniques, forms, and conditioning that sharpen timing, power, and control. Partner weapon work starts here with Lui Fung Doi Quan, the Thunder Wind Fighting Staff, and the chin na moves into complex locks 51-60, focused on the neck.
At Shadow Fist, One Stripe material is taught step by step in class under your instructor's guidance, then refined at home with the training video below. Consistent practice between classes is what turns each technique into something you can use without thinking.

Partner weapon work
Lui Fung Doi Quan: Thunder Wind Fighting Staff
Lui Fung Doi Quan is a structured two-person routine with the long staff, part of the system’s partner weapon curriculum. It is sparring rather than solo form: both partners strike, block, and counter in sequence, so the work is about real-time combat principles instead of how a set looks on its own. The videos also work the second principle, Fun Gun Chaw.
Staff against staff
How to apply offensive strikes and defensive blocks safely, using a traditional wooden long staff against a weapon of the same length.
Thunder and wind
The explosive power of thunder and the swift, continuous velocity of wind, generated through weapon rotations and strikes.
Distance and footwork
Managing spacing and timing to avoid being struck, then stepping in to counter an opponent’s staff attack.
Adhering and redirecting
Standard Eagle Claw mechanics, such as redirecting force, applied through a weapon rather than empty hands.
Fun Gun Chaw (2nd principle)
The videos also cover the second Eagle Claw principle, separate the tendons and break the bones, applied to the staff: trapping a limb or weapon and then taking the structure out of it.
Chin na at this rank
Complex locks 51-60: neck control
This rank also teaches complex locks 51-60 of the 108, locks focused on the neck: controlling the head and posture rather than an individual limb.
Controlling posture
The neck sets the spine. Take the head and the whole body follows, which is why these locks end a confrontation quickly.
Collar, jaw, and shoulder ties
Entries that connect the grip to the neck through the collar, jaw line, and shoulder, trained slowly with a partner.
Safety first
These are controlled drills: pressure is applied gradually and released immediately, never cranked.
