Eagle Claw Kung Fu training at Shadow Fist

Kung Fu Sash Library

Black SashTwo Stripes

The second rank beyond black sash. Two Stripes training adds new techniques, forms, and conditioning on top of everything from the earlier ranks, sharpening speed, precision, and fighting intent.

About this rank

Each stripe beyond black sash marks another layer of the Eagle Claw curriculum. Two Stripes brings the Kwan Do, the heavy dynasty halberd, through Chun Chow Dai Do, and continues the chin na with complex locks 61-70, alongside the conditioning that keeps advanced students sharp.

At Shadow Fist, Two Stripes material is taught step by step in class under your instructor's guidance, then refined at home with the training video below. Consistent practice between classes is what turns each technique into something you can use without thinking.

  • Rank: Black Sash, Two Stripes
  • Program: Eagle Claw Kung Fu
  • Focus: Chun Chow Dai Do and locks 61-70
  • Taught: In class, with a video for home practice

Train it with us

Two Stripes training continues in our Eagle Claw classes in Windsor Heights. Practice at home with the training video below, then refine it with your instructor on the mat.

Weapon at this rank

Chun Chow Dai Do: Spring and Autumn Big Knife

Chun Chow Dai Do teaches the techniques and mastery of the Kwan Do (Guan Dao), the dynasty halberd. It is an advanced long-handled weapon form built around the mechanics of heavy polearms, and in the Ying Jow Pai system it tests a student’s ability to extend internal power through a massive external implement. The videos also work the third principle, Dim Yut Bye Hei.

Heavy weapon mechanics

Handling a large, top-heavy bladed weapon safely and efficiently, so the weight works with you instead of against you.

Core combat techniques

Large sweeping cuts, vertical chops, parries, slices, hacks, and thrusts with the halberd.

Full-body power

Torque from the waist and legs to swing and manipulate the weapon’s weight, rather than muscling it with the arms.

Conditioning and footwork

Operational stamina, deep structural rooting, and stable stance transitions under a heavy load.

Dim Yut Bye Hei (3rd principle)

The videos also cover the third Eagle Claw principle, seal the veins and stop the breath: gripping and pressing to cut off circulation or close the airway, and knowing when to release.

Chin na at this rank

Complex locks 61-70

The videos for this rank also demonstrate complex locks 61-70 of the 108, trained with a partner and finished on both sides.

Entries and finishes

Each lock is shown from the entry through to the finish, so you see how the grip is taken and where the pressure goes.

Both sides

Work the right and left side equally. A lock you can only take on one side is half a lock.

Controlled drilling

Partner work is applied gradually and released immediately, keeping the emphasis on control rather than force.
