Eagle Claw Kung Fu training at Shadow Fist

Kung Fu Sash Library

Black SashThree Stripes

The third rank beyond black sash. Three Stripes training adds new techniques, forms, and conditioning on top of everything from the earlier ranks, sharpening speed, precision, and fighting intent.

About this rank

Each stripe beyond black sash marks another layer of the Eagle Claw curriculum. Three Stripes builds on the earlier stripe ranks with deeper technique work, partner weapon work in Don Do Por Cheung, and the conditioning that keeps advanced students sharp.

At Shadow Fist, Three Stripes material is taught step by step in class under your instructor's guidance, then refined at home with the training video below. Consistent practice between classes is what turns each technique into something you can use without thinking.

  • Rank: Black Sash, Three Stripes
  • Program: Eagle Claw Kung Fu
  • Focus: Don Do Por Cheung (saber vs spear)
  • Taught: In class, with a video for home practice

Train it with us

Three Stripes training continues in our Eagle Claw classes in Windsor Heights. Practice at home with the training video below, then refine it with your instructor on the mat.

Partner weapon work

Don Do Por Cheung: Single Saber Defeats Spear

Don Do Por Cheung is a two-person partner weapon form: one student works the single broadsword (dan dao), the other the spear (cheung). It teaches tactics rather than solo movement, so both sides learn what their weapon can and cannot do against the other. The videos also work the fourth principle, Cow Wai Saw Fung.

Closing the distance

The spear owns the long range, so the saber side learns to deflect thrusts safely and get inside the spear’s effective reach.

Deflection and evasion

Precise footwork and circular blade deflections that neutralize the piercing accuracy of a spear thrust.

Weapon dynamics

The spear side keeps distance, recovers from a deflected strike, and uses its length defensively; the saber side works aggressive close-quarters cutting and slicing angles.

Cow Wai Saw Fung (4th principle)

The videos also cover the fourth Eagle Claw principle, claw and press then block and redirect: catch the incoming weapon, then turn it aside instead of meeting it head on.
