Eagle Claw Kung Fu training at Shadow Fist

Kung Fu Sash Library

Black SashFour Stripes

The fourth rank beyond black sash. Four Stripes training adds new techniques, forms, and conditioning on top of everything from the earlier ranks, sharpening speed, precision, and fighting intent.

About this rank

Each stripe beyond black sash marks another layer of the Eagle Claw curriculum. Four Stripes brings Sui Hung Kuen, the Small Hero Fist, with its kicking, level changes, and aerial-to-ground transitions, alongside the conditioning that keeps advanced students sharp.

At Shadow Fist, Four Stripes material is taught step by step in class under your instructor's guidance, then refined at home with the training video below. Consistent practice between classes is what turns each technique into something you can use without thinking.

Form at this rank

Sui Hung Kuen: Small Hero Fist

Sui Hung Kuen, also known as Xiao Xiong Quan, is an intermediate-to-advanced solo routine in the Ying Jow Pai system. It is built to develop stamina, balance, footwork, and fluid transitions between aerial and ground movement. The second video also works the fifth principle, Sim Jim Tong Na.

Dynamic kicking and leg work

High front kicks, jumping kicks, spinning manoeuvres, and low-level leg sweeps.

Stances and body level changes

Shifting between wide, stable stances, deep crouches, and ground-level transitions.

Strikes and combinations

Rapid hand strikes, punches, and the flowing defensive and offensive patterns of the Northern Eagle Claw system.

Agility and coordination

The routine builds stamina, balance, and clean transitions between aerial and ground movements.

Sim Jim Tong Na (5th principle)

The second video also covers the fifth Eagle Claw principle, evade by turning and jump away to avoid, which is where the form’s spins and level changes come from.
