Black SashTraining Videos
Black sash introduces the gim, the Chinese straight sword, through Dat Mo Gim. The library gathers the techniques, forms, and requirements for the rank in one place so you can review the full curriculum and practise every section at home.
About this rank
Earning a black sash marks years of disciplined work: the empty-hand forms, weapon sets, and techniques from every earlier rank, brought together with the maturity and precision of an advanced student. This rank introduces the gim, the straight sword, with Dat Mo Gim (Damo Jian), Bodhidharma’s Sword, and works through complex locks 41-50, focused on the legs. The black sash library is where all of that training lives for review and refinement.
At Shadow Fist, black sash material is taught step by step in class under your instructor's guidance, then refined at home with the training video below. Consistent practice between classes is what turns each technique into something you can use without thinking.

The gim: Dat Mo Gim
Also spelled Damo Jian, Dat Mo Gim is a traditional straight-sword form in the Northern Shaolin Eagle Claw curriculum, named for Dat Mo (Bodhidharma), the legendary founder of Chan Buddhism associated with Shaolin.
Classical sword principles
Footwork, body alignment, agility, and the fluid transitions unique to the straight sword, combining smooth flowing movement with the sharp applications of Northern Shaolin.
Connection to system roots
Named for Bodhidharma, the form honours the martial and meditative heritage underlying the system.
Weapon integration
It bridges empty-hand Eagle Claw concepts into armed combat: evasive footwork, redirection, leverage, and precise striking and seizing intent.

Complex locks 41-50: leg locks
The videos for this rank also demonstrate complex locks 41-50 of the 108, a block devoted to leg lock techniques: controlling the ankle, knee, and hip rather than the arm. They introduce the first Eagle Claw principle, Jow Da Cum No.
Controlling the base
Leg locks take away the stance first. Once the base is gone, the rest of the lock follows without a wrestling match.
Ankle, knee, and hip
Entries and finishes for the joints below the waist, trained on both sides with a partner.
Jow da with the legs
Grabbing and striking together: the grip holds the limb while the other hand or a sweep finishes the job.
Jow Da Cum No (1st principle)
The videos also introduce the first Eagle Claw principle, grab and strike, seize and control: the grip sets up the strike, and the strike sets up the lock.
