Eagle Claw Kung Fu training at Shadow Fist

Kung Fu Rank · Brown Sash, Red Stripe

Shepherd Staff& Six Harmony Saber

Brown sash, red stripe features two weapon forms: Kwan Yeung Kwan, the Shepherd Staff, and Lok Hop Do, the Six Harmony Saber.

About this rank

This rank introduces the staff and the dao, the Chinese broadsword, with two weapon forms. Kwan Yeung Kwan (also spelled Kwan Yeung Quan), the Shepherd Staff, comes first, then Lok Hop Do (also spelled Lok Hop Dao), the Six Harmony Saber, which trains body balance, intricate arm work, and full-body coordination.

At Shadow Fist, both forms are taught step by step in class under your instructor's guidance, then refined at home with the training videos below. Weapon work needs space and control, so practise the sets slowly before adding speed.

  • Rank: Brown Sash, Red Stripe
  • Program: Eagle Claw Kung Fu
  • Forms: Kwan Yeung Kwan, Lok Hop Do
  • Weapons: Staff and dao (broadsword)

Train it with us

Both weapon forms are covered in our Eagle Claw classes in Windsor Heights. Practice at home with the training videos, then refine the sets with your instructor on the mat.

Two weapon forms

Staff and broadsword

Kwan Yeung Kwan · Shepherd Staff

Also spelled Kwan Yeung Quan, the Shepherd Staff is the introductory weapon routine in the curriculum.

Long-range combat

Basic and extended staff-fighting maneuvers that teach you to manage distance from an opponent.

Physical conditioning

Builds significant strength, stamina, and dexterity specifically in the wrists and arms.

Foundation for weapon play

Helps students carry empty-hand principles like footwork, leverage, and body shifting into handling wooden staff instruments.

Lok Hop Do · Six Harmony Saber

Also known as Lok Hop Dao or the Six-Way Sabre Form, Lok Hop Do is a traditional weapon form in Eagle Claw Kung Fu that trains body balance, intricate arm work, and full-body coordination. The dao is shorter and heavier than the straight sword, so the set rewards clean body mechanics rather than wrist speed alone.
