Eagle Claw Kung Fu training at Shadow Fist

Advanced Form

Ng Hau Do5 Guardian Saber

A saber form in the Eagle Claw curriculum. Ng Hau Do, the 5 Guardian Saber, teaches students to handle a single broad blade with authority, cutting from five guarding positions that cover every angle of attack.

About the form

Ng Hau Do, the Five Guardian Saber or Five Tiger Generals Saber, is a traditional single saber weapon form in the Fan Zi Ying Jow Pai (Eagle Claw) system. It is built around five guarding positions. Each guard covers a line of attack, and each cut returns to a guard, so the blade is never out of position. The form trains grip, edge alignment, and the footwork needed to step around a cut while keeping the saber between you and the threat. Working the set builds the control and awareness that make single-saber work feel natural.

At Shadow Fist, Ng Hau Do is taught step by step in class under your instructor’s guidance, then refined at home with the training video below. Practice builds the grip, edge control, and guarding footwork that carry into the rest of the weapon curriculum.

  • Focus: Saber guarding, edge control, and cutting footwork
  • Type: Weapon form (saber)

What the form teaches

Five Guardian Saber

Historical and symbolic foundation

The set honors and embodies the spirit of the five legendary Tiger Generals who guarded the emperor, translating historical martial values into movement.

Single saber application (don do)

It trains standard single-broadsword techniques: slashing, chopping, blocking, wrapping, and thrusting with a heavy-bladed, single-edged weapon.

Footwork and agility

Eagle Claw weapon forms integrate the system’s dynamic northern-style footwork, body shifting, and transitional mobility.

Power generation and flow

It teaches how to combine momentum, wrist snaps, and waist rotation to generate cutting force while maintaining defensive structure.
