Eagle Claw Kung Fu training at Shadow Fist

Advanced Form

Lin Wan GimConnecting Link Sword

A sword form in the Eagle Claw curriculum. Lin Wan Gim, the Connecting Link Sword, teaches students to chain straight-sword techniques together without pause, linking cut into thrust into deflection so the blade never stops moving.

About the form

Lin Wan Gim, also spelled Lin Wan Jian and translated as the Connecting Linking Sword, is a traditional straight double-edged sword (gim) form in Fan Zi Ying Jow Pai (Eagle Claw Kung Fu). It is built around continuity: each movement sets up the next, so a cut becomes a thrust, a thrust becomes a deflection, and the sword returns to guard without a break in rhythm. Training the set develops blade control, wrist strength, and the timing needed to keep a sword moving with intent rather than speed.

At Shadow Fist, Lin Wan Gim is taught step by step in class under your instructor’s guidance, then refined at home with the training video below. Practice builds the blade control, timing, and linked footwork that carry into the rest of the weapon curriculum.

  • Focus: Linked techniques, sword mechanics, and agility
  • Type: Weapon form (straight sword)
  • Style: Eagle Claw Kung Fu
  • Taught: In class, with a video for home practice

Train it with us

Lin Wan Gim is taught in our Eagle Claw classes in Windsor Heights. Practice the set at home with the training video below, then refine it with your instructor on the mat.

What the form teaches

Connecting Linking Sword

Continuous flow and linkage

Lin Wan translates to connecting or linked, reflecting the form’s core principle: uninterrupted, fluid transitions from one strike, parry, or body movement directly into the next, without dead pauses.

Two-part structure

The complete set is traditionally divided into Dai Lin Wan Jian, the greater or first portion, and Siu Lin Wan Jian, the lesser or second portion.

Footwork and agility

It integrates traditional Northern Shaolin and Eagle Claw mobility: deep, balanced stances such as the cat stance combined with rapid shifts in direction.

Sword mechanics

It trains precise straight-sword applications: wrist-driven cuts, thrusts, deflections, and body-sword coordination characteristic of classical Chinese swordplay.
