Eagle Claw Kung Fu training at Shadow Fist

Kung Fu Rank · Yellow Sash

Yellow SashTam Tui and Simple Locks

The yellow sash in our Eagle Claw Kung Fu curriculum. The videos cover Tam Tui rows 6-10 and the first five simple locks.

About this level

At yellow sash the work continues through Tam Tui, also spelled Tan Tui and translated as springing leg or snap leg. In Eagle Claw and Northern Shaolin systems it is the core training system that builds body mechanics, conditioning, and application before the complex claws and long sets: rows 6-10 are covered here.

The second video covers simple locks 1-5 with a partner, so you learn the entry and the finish on both sides.

At Shadow Fist, this level is taught in class under your instructor’s guidance and supported by the two training videos and the handouts below. Short, regular practice at home is what makes the material stick.

  • Tam Tui rows 6-10, the springing leg sets that build stance, kick, and punch mechanics.
  • Rows drilled for flow, speed, and power, linking movement, breathing, and timing.
  • Simple locks 1-5 of 40, trained with a partner.

Train it with us

Kung Fu classes run at our Windsor Heights school, with Little Eagles for the youngest students. Practice at home with the videos below, then bring your questions to class.

Core curriculum and fundamentals

What Tam Tui teaches

Stance training

Deep, solid structural foundations: horse stances, arrow and bow stances, and hanging or pressing stances that build lower-body strength and stability.

Springing leg kicks

Low, sharp, snappy Northern Shaolin kicks, trained for precision, leg extension, and balance.

Striking and punching

Straight punches, back fists, hammer fists, and uppercuts combined with proper waist rotation to generate power.

Blocking and defending

Circular blocking, yielding techniques, and swing blocks that transition fluidly into counter-strikes.

Flow, speed, and power

Tam Tui combinations drilled repeatedly to link movement, breathing, and timing, bridging the gap from simple form to real self-defense: escaping grabs, joint and leverage checks, and close-quarters striking.
